Beautiful Views in Singapore

This morning started out pretty chill. Since both of my parents (and Rachel) had to work, we stayed at the apartment. Taylor enjoyed playing basketball, and we all went for a swim in our apartment's pool. Rachel then joined us for lunch, which was just sandwiches we made in our apartment. Now I know usually eating out is a treat, but having to eat all of your meals out is really quite tiring. You have to go out to the city and find a place to eat, which means we spend a lot of our time on meals. It also means you can only eat at mealtime since it is too hard to carry around our leftovers. After lunch, we were ready to head out.
Our first stop was the ArtScience museum. This "museum" was not exactly a museum-- more of an experience. The first exhibit was about Alice in Wonderland. There were doors to walk through, clips from the movies, a tea party with the Mad Hatter, and even a chance to join the Queen of Hearts' minions. The next exhibit, future world, was just as neat. There were once again lots of interactive displays. For example, in one exhibit you could scan a drawing of an animal, and it would add it to a scene, where the creatures would interact. Unfortunately, this ended with Rachel's eagle eating my lizard. At the end, there were lights hanging from the wall you could walk through. The last exhibit, floating utopias, was about inflatable things. It was disappointing.
We then went to Satay by the Bay, which is an open-aired food court at Gardens by the Bay. Singapore is famous for its food because it has really good food from all over southeast Asia. We got a couple dishes we all shared. It was really good.
Next, we headed to the Cloud Forest. It is one of the gardens at Gardens by the Bay. Cloud forests make up less than 2.5% of tropical forests, but they have a lot of biodiversity and plants and animals that are nowhere else in the world. At the Cloud Forest exhibits, you could go up high and then walk around at each floor. It was really pretty. Christian wants me to add that he really enjoyed the carnivorous plants they had there.
Our last stop for the night was a light show. It is put on by the Marina Bay Sands Hotel, one of Singapore's most iconic buildings. The show overlooked the water. The hotel shined lights from its buildings onto the waters. There were fountains, dramatic music, and even images on the water. It was very impressive. By then it was quite late, and we headed home. Singapore is very different than the other places we have been on this trip - but we are liking it a lot! It's very modern, very clean and feels kind of like a giant amusement park. The view across the bay is beautiful.

Walking from the Cloud Forest to Marina Bay Sands hotel. My feet have a hard time with all the walking (thanks to Severs). Sometimes I sit out - and sometimes I get rides!

Singapore sounds amazing Sarah Ann. We are excited to visit it after you leave, and we're planning to see some of the places and sites you enjoyed. Grandpa Huber
ReplyDeleteGrandma Albrecht We always joke that Singapore is not really a country, it is just a place where all of the rich people in the world keep their money. So that makes sense that it is beautiful and clean and modern and like a giant amusement park. I bet they don't even have poor people there. haha. But then again, someone has to clean their houses! it has to be great fun to visit. So sorry that your feet aren't cooperating. You are a trooper!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, the Cloud Forest looks amazing Could you go all the way to the top?
ReplyDeleteYou were still under a roof, but it was basically the top!
DeleteGood observation about eating out Sarah Ann! You all did so much. The ArtScience museum, Satay by the Bay, Garden by the Bay. Cloud Forest. the view over Marina Bay and the light show all sound terrific! So sorry about your feet, but glad you sometimes get rides. Thanks to those who give you rides! Much love, Grandma Huber
ReplyDeleteAnother adventure to shar with all of us. Sounds like a wonderful time. Sorry your feet hurt, Sarah Ann, but so wonderful that you have a sister to carry you. Thank you for sharing.
