Disappearing Glaciers
July 20, 2018

Today we woke up in Seward with all of the cousins. I was really excited
to see everyone. We first went to the Sea Life Center. The view by the sea life
center was amazing! The Center was pretty cool. It was like an aquarium sort
of. There was this cool part with birds and fish that you could walk into and
be really close to them. There was also a baby sea otter they had rescued and
was recovering. They were feeding him with a bottle. He was really cute.

After the Sea Life Center we went Kenai Fjords National Park to do the Exit
Glacier hike. It was to the bottom of the glacier. On Friday Thursday we are
going to do the 9 mile hike all the way up the glacier and to the Harding Ice Field.
The hike was really fun. It was kinda depressing though because there were markers
showing where the glacier had been at that year. You could see just how much
the glacier had receded.

After that hike, we drove into town to do a 2 mile stroll around a lake.
It wasn’t as cool as the Exit Glacier hike but it was still coolish. There was
a pretty waterfall there. We still had a few minutes before dinner so we went
and sat by the water in Resurrection Bay. We saw some sea otters there also.

Then we went ate dinner. It was really good. They had all type of sea
food since of course Alaska is known for good seafood. However, a lot of the food
was really expensive. One dish cost $58.
After the delicious dinner we walked across the street to look for
souvenirs in the town. Porter and I got matching sweatshirts Then we went home.
We are going to go to bed early so we can enough energy for the long strenuous hike
tomorrow.
Thank you Taylor for this interesting post! So glad you had this fabulous trip with your dear relatives! It is sad the glaciers have receded. It all sounds fantastic! Love, Grandma Huber
