Starved Rock State Park

Today, we woke up in our cabin right by the Mississippi River. We quickly got dressed and went to church that started at 7:50 a.m. That's early! After church, we walk around the outside of the Nauvoo temple and took a four kids picture. After that, we went to the Trail of Hope. It's the exact route that the pioneers drove their wagons on when they had to leave Nauvoo in 1847 in the middle of winter. The trail of hope. We saw some things one of ancestors had written - lots of our ancestors lived in Nauvoo. Cool.

After that, we drove three hours to Starved Rock State Park. It was kind of on our way home. We hiked a mile or two to the first canyon - St. Louis canyon. It had a waterfall. It was really cool. Some people were swimming even though they weren't supposed to. There were a lot of people there.

St Louis Canyon (Taylor is in love with the T pose)

Then we drove to the visitor's center where we got a map. Then we hiked a looooonnnnnnggggg ways. There were lots of stairs. We should've counted them.

Our favorite canyon was at the end of our hike - La Salle canyon. We could even hike behind the waterfall here.

  1. Good job, Christian! We walked the Trail of Hope and felt gratitude for the pioneers. Starved Rock State Park and the waterfalls looks beautiful. Good job hiking so far! Love, Grandma Huber
