The Aquarium

Today, we went to an aquarium – Sun Asia, one of the most
popular tourist spots here in Dalian. There were four buildings. In the first
building, there were Artic animals. We went to a really cool Walrus show. The
bad thing was, it was PACKED! People were crowded everywhere. We could barely
walk up the stairs. Luckily, we found a couple of seats and watched the show. I
thought it was really cute when the walruses started dancing at the end. After
the walrus show, we went to the whale show. It was even more packed than the
walrus show. Christian cried almost the whole time. We had to stand, packed
tightly together. It was really hot (there was no air conditioning – just some
cooling units every once in a while) and really loud.

After getting a little ice cream and looking at some other
cool animals, we went through this amazing underwater tunnel. The underground tunnel
is where you stand on this super slow treadmill sort of thing that moves
through an arch made of glass so it appears like you are in the aquarium with
all the sea creatures. The tunnel is the longest one in Asia, and I am pretty
sure it is the longest underwater tunnel in the world. After that, we went to the dolphin show. Like
all the other animal shows, it was packed. Luckily a guy told us that we could
sit on the stairs in the front, so we got pretty good seats. The show was super
neat. We were watching the dolphin show when an old lady came and sat right in
front Christian, so he couldn’t see a thing. There was room by my mom for
Christian to sit, but still it made me so angry!
See how packed it is?
After watching the dolphin show and seeing some fish, we
went to find lunch. We ate these things that are sort of like hot dogs on a
stick. They are not my favorite thing, but not the worst thing I have eaten. We
also ate these things that were kind of like potatoes or French fries on a
stick. They were good.
Here’s the choices at lunch – fish on a stick, anyone?
Or there’s always fried squid….
Then we went to the last building. We went on this thing
that was like a tilted boat, walked by some talking pictures, went through this
tunnel that made it look like you were spinning upside down. It was pretty
cool. After that, we took a cart to get to the 4D dinosaur movie part.
When we got home, we packed because tomorrow we leave for
Shanghai. It’s almost my last day in Dalian and I’m kind of sad about that.
Starting tomorrow we’ll be traveling all around China for two weeks while my
dad gives talks at different universities. Then we’ll be back for two days
before leaving for Beijing.
It sounds like the Aquarium was amazing. What does squid taste like? Have you ever tried it? I'm looking forward to your posts about Shanghai. It's been 10 years since we went there. I wonder how much it has changed. Love, Grandma A.
ReplyDeleteIt is like the upside down tunnel took you back in time to the land of dinosaurs. What is a 4D movie like?
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a walrus show. I thought they just did sea lions, whales and dolphins. Were the whales killer whales?
