The Day the Weatherman Was Wrong

Editor's Note: Sarah Ann would like to amend Christian's title to say The Day the Weatherwoman or Man Was Wrong

When we woke up, it was raining a little. The weather forecast said it was going to rain all day. A few minutes later, it stopped. We decided to go out right away before the rain came back. We walked to the market to get something for my grandpas for Father's Day (a little late). There were a lot of people in the market - mostly buying food. Upstairs they had other stuff. I loved looking at all the stuff at the market. Near the end, I got choose a little key chain/pen that has the letter "C" on it. I can't tell you what we got them because it's a surprise.

chicken feet anyone?

Next, we went home to drop off the stuff. Then we went to a history museum (the Museo Regional de Guanajuato Alhondiga de Guanajuato). I thought it was fun to do a treasure hunt and look for something in each room - basically a statue hunt. I learned there were tons of wars in Mexican history. The museum building was an important place in the Mexican War of Independence. The Mexicans took it over from the Spanish but then the Spanish took back over the town. They killed four of the Mexican leaders and hung their heads from the four corners of the building. Now, those people are heroes.

This honors Manuel Hidalgo, one of the heroes of Mexican Independence

For lunch, we ate chicken. We ordered a whole roasted chicken to share and eat on corn tortillas. It didn't look that good to me so I ate eggs and french fries. And I got to drink Fanta Naranja (orange soda). We kept looking for rain, but there still wasn't any.

Afterwards, we hurried to catch a bus to a silver mine. The bus went up the hill to a little town. When we got dropped off by the bus, we walked up to the mine. There were lots of dogs including some on a roof. At the mine, there were mountain ranges we could see in the distance. We got to go down into one of the mines for a tour. They said around 12-15 people died in the mine every day! We also saw some fake silver. We then walked to a fancy church. It was paid for from the money made in the mine. Then we took the bus back. We kept thinking it was going to start raining any moment - but there was still no rain.

Once we got back, we just kind of walked around the town. It was pretty cute. All the houses are difference colors. My mom and sister asked me what color house I would like. I said I liked blue best. We ate dinner at the market again and then came home.

I loved the colorful buildings!

I also had fun chasing pigeons all day

It was a very fun day! And - it hasn't rained yet! Although it still says it will start raining any minute...

  1. This is Grandma. Your key chain sounds nice and the colorful houses are neat! Glad it looks like Sarah Ann feels ok! Glad it didn't rain. Have you eaten chicken feet? Have you seen others eat them, like at a restaurant? Your mother sure planned interesting places for you to see! Today I went to a store and the signs are in English with the Spanish words smaller underneath. I tried to remember some of the Spanish words.
