The Blog is BACK

Monday, August 9th

Dear faithful readers,

It has been two years and one day since my last blog post. I can only imagine what these past two years have been like for you - checking our blog every day, holding your breath while you anxiously hope for another post, only to sulk and mourn for hours when there isn’t one. I heard people talk about how 2020 was such a boring year - it must be because your lives seem so dull without reading about our intrepid adventures.

Not to fear though - the blog is back! Our next adventure: Alaska. Highlights include seeing Rachel for the first time in over a year, Christian and I getting our 50th state, and visiting three National Parks (Glacier Bay, Wrangell St. Elias, and Denali).

Here’s a map of Alaska so you can see the National Parks we are going to

Our original plan for today was to fly out of O’Hare at 6:20, meet Rachel at the Seattle airport at 9:30 CT, and land in Juneau at 2:30 CT. But traveling never goes as planned. The first issue? A thunderstorm has delayed every plane in the airport. It means we are missing our connection in Seattle. The first flight attendant said we’d have to pay an extra $2,000 to get to Juneau. The second flight attendant put us on five flights all around Alaska between Seattle and Juneau. Fortunately, my mom used her superb diplomacy skills to barter us to a different direct flight from Seattle to Juneau with no extra cost. Unfortunately, our flight is now delayed until at least 11:40pm. Rachel is sleeping by herself in Seattle. Hopefully, we’ll eventually get out of O’Hare? Until then, I’ll survive off fruit snacks and spider solitaire.
